Overview:

Attendees of this course will learn how to install and administer a Linux system. Topics include system installation and configuration, startup and shutdown, adding/deleting users, installing peripheral devices, backing up and restoring system and user data, application package installation, security, and task scheduling.


Objectives:

  • Describe the duties of a Linux administrator
  • Install the Linux operating system
  • Start up & shut down a Linux system (gracefully)
  • Monitor system status to determine correct operation
  • Add and delete user accounts and groups
  • Add and configure peripheral devices
  • Create filesystems, check the integrity, and repair damaged filesystems
  • Identify Linux floppy and tape device special files
  • Use the cpio and tar archive programs for data storage and retrieval
  • Perform complete and incremental filesystem backups and restores
