Introduction to the Linux System
Attendees of this course will learn how to install and administer a Linux system. Topics include system installation and configuration, startup and shutdown, adding/deleting users, installing peripheral devices, backing up and restoring system and user data, application package installation, security, and task scheduling.
Describe the duties of a Linux administrator
Install the Linux operating system
Start up & shut down a Linux system (gracefully)
Monitor system status to determine correct operation
Add and delete user accounts and groups
Add and configure peripheral devices
Create filesystems, check the integrity, and repair damaged filesystems
Identify Linux floppy and tape device special files
Use the cpio and tar archive programs for data storage and retrieval
Perform complete and incremental filesystem backups and restores
Manage the kernel and devices
Set up and use the cron and at facilities
